Ok, so we’re a bit late on with this one, WordPress 2.9 was released waaay back in December, introducing some handy new features. We would have reported it then but we were too full of Christmas (ahem) spirit, and we are now on version 2.9.1. I still think it’s worth mentioning though as these additions are so useful for anyone with a WordPress blog. Most of the changes are little tweaks and improvements but these are the 3 biggies:

Undo and Trash

How many times have you spent hours finely crafting a world class blog post only to accidently delete it? This one’s for you then. Posts and pages don’t get deleted now, just moved to the trash. You no longer get bugged with “are you sure” messages and you can click the undo link or retrieve items from the trash any time.

Basic Image Editing

No they haven’t built Photoshop into WordPress, but you can perform simple actions on any images you upload. Crop, rotate, flip and resize images to your hearts content.

Media Embedding

There have always been plugins that enable you to embed YouTube videos in your WordPress blog, but now all it takes is pasting the URL into your post. How cool is that?! You can also embed media from a bunch of other sites such as Vimeo, Google Video, Flickr and Photobucket, and it’s based on an open format so with a little technical know-how  you can add any other sites which support it.

So there you have it, some really useful features. The media embedding in particular is great, making it so much easier to include social media in your posts. We are on the edge of our seats to see what WordPress has up it’s sleeve in the next major update!
