Custom post types and taxonomies are a very powerful feature introduced in WordPress 3.0 that allow you to organise your site content much more effectively and provide a more usable interface in the back end of the site.
Awarded best out of the box WordPress calendar plugin - “My favourite out of the box design was the Kino calendar” by Jim Bowes
At last the new event calendar is here! Apologies to all for the delays, but we’ve constantly had to put this project on the backburner as paid work has come through.
However, we hope the wait has been worthwhile. There are some major updates to the calendar, and a few things to be aware of beforeupgrading.

Post thumbnails, AKA featured images, are a great feature in WordPress allowing you to associate a chosen image with each post or page. This is commonly used in newspaper style layouts to display a little thumbnail image next to each entry in a list of blog posts. Post thumbnails are really easy to set up and incredibly flexible.
The possibilities for using post thumbnails are endless, try to think outside of simply having a litttle image attached to each post. We have already used them to great effect on our very own site. TheĀ image sliders on the homepageĀ showing our latest work are populated with post thumbnails.

We’re very proud of the AdmiralPR website. It not only looks great and works brilliantly, but it makes use of some of the new WordPress 3.0 functionality to good effect, and also contains some sneaky jQuery which lifts the site in some subtle ways.
We’re going to examine why the site worked out so well, before discussing what went on under the hood.

WordPress 3 is nearly upon us, it is currently in release candidate, one step away from launch. We have been playing with this version so that we are ready when the big day comes. Now would be a good time to reveal some of the cool new features available in this major WordPress 3 update. There are a large number of minor tweaks and additions but we will focus on the major ones that will be most visible to WordPress users.
I was browsing through one of the sites we’ve recently launched and saw a fantastic post on datagraphics by Ann Winter of the Arts Research Digest.

I’m happy to announce that the Kino Add HTML plugin is now ready for release.

As with most aspects of WordPress, the next / previous navigation links are highly customisable. The WordPress codex has a pretty comprehensive reference for this, but one thing that might not be immediately obvious is how to use images for the links or how to show inactive links.
